Relative to your question is the fact that methamphetamine is sometimes used to adulterate MDMA, in part because its effects are so similar. Many of the effects of methamphetamine and MDMA are suprisingly similar, and novice users can sometimes mistake one for the other, but after experiencing both the differences are obvious. Both produce intense euphoria, but whereas methamphetamine involves dopamine, its euphoria is more characterized by physical euphoria and stimulation, and MDMA's euphoria is more of a psychological (but also physical) euphoria which is characterized by empathy and openness rather than the more crude stimulation associated with methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine and MDMA do have similar profiles.
